EGAT moves forward power generating improvement project for green house gas reduction
BANGKOK, 23 March 2010 (NNT) — Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) moves forward with the project of long-term power generating efficiency and the project of power plant construction at six dams, in order to reduce the green house gas by 300,000 tons/year.
Mr Banpot Saengkaeo, Deputy Governor of Social and Environmental Affairs, stated that the efficiency improvement of Mae Mo power plant project was one of the long-term power generating efficiency development and the power plant construction at six dams project. The project is in line with the PDP 2010 to be proceeded during 2010-2015 with a budget of 20 billion THB, aiming at reducing 300 billion tons of green house gas each year.
Mae Mo power plant this year will use the clean technology for the plant efficiency improvement plan at units 12-13 for 40 billion tons green house gas reduction/year and at the Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat province with expected green house gas reduction of 35 billion tons/year. Meanwhile units 4-7 of Mae Mo plant are under consideration for the method used in production improvement.
EGAT is the first governmental organization to be qualified in using clean technology by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization.
