BANGKOK, 13 December 2009 (NNT) – The 15-year development plan on renewable energy has made an outstanding progress with more than half of the project implemented, according to Mr Krairit Nilkuha, Director-General of the Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency Department.
Mr Krairit stated that the 15-year renewable energy development plan (2008-2022) was far more advanced than expected as it has successfully raised renewable energy usage to 8%, 1.6% higher than the last two years. The plan has targeted to increase the renewable energy proportion to 15.6% by 2011.
Mr Krairit said however raw materials used in producing renewable energy such as husk and bagasse are facing a shortage. The department is therefore adjusting the plan. He added that solar and wind energy is now in great interest among Thai entrepreneurs.
Mr Kraikrit continued to say that the global economic recovery would help bolster the renewable energy investment in Thailand in the future. Many countries were now paying greater interest to energy saving and preservation as some materials used in renewable energy producton could not be renewed once vanished.
