BANGKOK, 18 June 2010 (NNT) – The export figure in May expanded by 42.1% with the total value of 16.55 billion USD, the highest in 22 months.
Minister of Commerce Pornthiva Nakasai attributed the significant increase of 42.1% in Thai exports to the recovery of the global economy. As for the export value in the first five months of 2010, the figure reached 75 billion USD or an expansion of 34.5%.
In addition, Ms Pornthiva indicated that the import figure in May rose 55.1% in line with the export with a value of 14.3 billion USD, resulting in a trade surplus worth over 2.2 billion USD. The import figure for the first five months of this year was valued at 70.97 billion USD or an increase of 54.9%, resulting in a trade surplus amounting to 4 million USD.
