Export growth targets reviewed

BANGKOK, 15 September 2009 (NNT) – 62 Thai Trade Centers will have a meeting at the 44th Bangkok Gem in order to review the export target during the last three months of the year and they expect export growth to increase to 10-15% next year.

The Department of Export Promotion (DEP) aims to increase the export proportion in new markets to 55 percent, the rest will remain in the main market. Next year Thailand expects to increase exports to the Indian market by 5% from 2% this year, while exports to the Chinese market are expected to return positive from flat growth this year.

The Middle East market is expected to expand by 5% from negative growth of 14% this year. Regarding the European market, exports are expected to expand by 10% from negative growth of 10-15% in this year. The export to the United States market will remain negative but it will improve from the two-digit negative growth this year. Exports to the Japanese market are expected to expand from negative growth of 10% this year.

Director of the Thai Trade Center, London, Ms. Banjongjit Angsusingh, said that the economic stimulus package of many countries in Europe would boost the people’s purchasing power and could drive export growth to 10% in the European market.
