FILMART Closes with Record Exhibitor/Buyer Totals

More than 6,300 Visitors, up 10%, Take in Four-Day Event

Hong Kong, Mar 22, 2013 – (ACN Newswire) – Exhibitors and buyers in record numbers participated in the 17th Hong Kong International Film and Television Market (FILMART), which closed yesterday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

FILMART 2013 welcomed 710 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and regions, up 10 per cent over last year’s exhibitor count. Over 6,300 buyers, also up about 10 per cent, took part in the four-day event, Asia’s major entertainment industry market, and one of the top three events of its kind in the world.

Emerging markets posted notable increases in buyer numbers, led by Russia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and India.

New Features

For the first time, FILMART included exhibitor pavilions from Italy, organised by the Italian Trade Commission, and Canada. Other key pavilions included: UNIFRANCE and IIe de France; UK Film; KOFIC and KOCCA from Korea; UNIJAPAN, Okinawa Film Office, Hokkaido Contents Distribution and JETRO from Japan; the Independent Film and TV Alliance from the United States; and China Film Promotion Inc from the Chinese mainland.

Several other countries also hosted pavilions: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Israel and Mexico.

First-time exhibitors included the Qatar-based Al Jazeera Media Network. The Chinese mainland once again put up a strong presence, with more than 140 exhibitors.

Seminar Spotlight

FILMART featured a series of conferences examining Chinese-language films, book-to-screen projects, Asian film industry opportunities and mobile and social games.

FILMART’s TV World, Animation & Digital Entertainment World, and Equipment & Post-Production Services allowed industry professionals to tap into all aspects of the international entertainment market.

TV World’s exhibitor total of more than 250 was up some 30 per cent over last year. The theme of TV World’s International Forum was TV programming and the new media, spotlighting the value of new media in engaging audiences.

Cinema Screenings

Some 360 screenings took place at FILMART, including more than 80 world and international premieres. In addition, the ACE Co-production Lab Hong Kong returned, featuring co-production case studies between the European Union and mainland companies. ACE was organised by the ACE-European Producer Network (Ateliers du Cinema Europeen), with the support of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong- Asia Film Financing Forum and Media International (European Union).

Other highlights included the Business of IP Zone, which offered IP trading and management services from lawyers, auditors and IP consultants.

Entertainment Expo

FILMART is part of Entertainment Expo Hong Kong, which features nine multimedia events covering film, television, digital entertainment and music. This year’s expo continues until 13 April.
