BANGKOK, 5 April 2010 (NNT) – Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij visited Trang Province to observe the income guarantee scheme operation in the area.
The Finance Minister along with Mr Chuan Leekpai, the former Prime Minister went to Tambon Na Muen Si in Na Yong District of Trang Province. The visit was meant to follow the progress of project operation in accordance with the Abhisit government’s initiative in all aspects of people’s living expenses, incomes and debts.
Mr Korn stated that the government had attached importance on the income guarantee scheme which was the project to lessen farmers’ burden nationwide, under the responsibilities of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Co-operatives (BAAC). Currently, more than four million farmers join the project and have received compensation from the scheme.
On this occasion, Mr Korn gave the compensation to 1,499 farmers who cultivated seasonal rice at 2.97 million THB. He said the scheme would be carried on permanently to assist farmers. The BAAC also presented scholarships at Khuan Sawan and Ban Sai Schools and a fund of 500,000 THB to Na Muen Si weaving community as manufacturing credit support.
