BANGKOK, 26 March 2010 (NNT) – There is a positive growth potential for Thai textile exports this year despite labor shortages, according to Executive Director of Thailand Textile Institute (THTI) Virat Tandaechanurat.
The export value of the textile industry this year is 7.2 billion USD.
Currently, the textile industry lacked skilled workers such as textile engineers, chemists and designers who are able to create added value to the Thai textile industry, said Mr Virat. These skills are valuable in promoting the textile industry.
The department will arrange the Young Designer Awards at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC) on 1-4 July 2010 to promote the skills of Thai designers.
Meanwhile, Thai Garment Manufacturers’ Association vice president, Sukit Kongpiyajarn said that the garment industry has experienced an increase in purchasing power but limitations on human resources have decreased its production potential.
This year, the garments industry is expected an export value of 3.5 billion THB. The vice president said that the Thai garment industry will become a crucial hub in 5-10 years.
