Govt intent on resolving Map Ta Phut impasse by complying consitution

BANGKOK, 1 November 2009 (NNT) – Speaking on his weekly talk show, the Prime Minister assures that the government intends to resolve the Map Ta Phut case by strictly complying with the constitution.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva expressed great sympathy to the affected residents in eastern province of Map Ta Phut industrial estate. He insisted that the government always upholds the constitution to end the investment deadlock while stating that all 76 investment projects which have passed the health and environment assessment test as required by the constitution and have yielded no environmental impacts as concerned.

He said Deputy Prime Minister Korbsak Sabhavasu has been assigned to inspect the industrial area and listen to the people’s opinions in an effort to come up with a concrete solution to the Map Ta Phut impasse.

The Prime Minister added that he has agreed with the proposal of the formation of a four-party independent committee to be responsible for studying and monitoring the 76 industrial projects suspended by the order of the Administrative Court to determine whether those projects had any negative effects on the environment and people’s health.
