Govt moves forward with energy saving campaign

BANGKOK, 21 February 2010 (NNT) – The Thai government is moving forward with the energy saving campaign by urging all national sectors to switch to using more fluorescent bulbs as an effort to help alleviate the global warming crisis.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva expressed that the government is pushing forward this energy-saving campaign while urging all national sectors to install more fluorescent bulbs which could save approximately 30% of energy. He pointed that the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) will be responsible for the installation of 2 million fluorescent bulbs starting from the civil sector, the private sector and the public sector respectively.

Mr Abhisit continued by saying that the government will also ask all households to use energy-saving electrical appliances in order to help reduce gas emissions.

Mr Abhisit lastly said that the government also launched measures or promotions aimed at encouraging the private sector to switch to using fluorescent bulbs in order to reduce 25% of their electricity costs this year.
