BANGKOK, 28 March 2010 (NNT) – The negotiation between the government and the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) on Sunday has ended with no resolution drawn after more than three hours of discussion.
In response to the demand of the UDD for House dissolution, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva voiced concerns if it would be the ultimate answer to all problems in Thai politics. On the other hand, UDD Chairperson Weera Musikapong indicated that people could make their decision via a fresh election.
The discussion went on with reference to the 19 September coup d’état and its consequences from the 2007 Constitution and independent agencies originated from the constitution. Each side also commented on future and problems in Thai politics.
After the talk lasting for more than three hours, UDD core leader Jatuporn Prompan offered the Prime Minister to dissolve the House within two weeks. Both sides then agreed to talk again on Monday evening at 18.00 hrs.
Apart from the Prime Minister, the representatives on the government side also included Secretary-General of the Prime Minister Korbsak Sabhavasu and Democrat Deputy Secretary-General Chamni Sakdiset. UDD core leader MD Weng Tojirakarn also joined Mr Weera and Mr Jatuporn in the talk.
The negotiation took place at King Prajadhipok’s Institute at about 16.00 hrs with a short break at nearly 19.00 hrs and ended half an hour later. The talk was live broadcast via television stations nationwide allowing the public to observe the process.
