Govt will consider a police reform

BANGKOK, 23 December 2010 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs Suthep Thaugsuban has disclosed that the government is willing to consider a police reform to bolster the service for Thai people.

Mr. Suthep stated that the government would review the police reform plan recommended by the police reform panel for higher working efficiency and for the benefit of the people. As for the decision to reschedule the appointment of new deputy police superintendents and inspectors, he explained that the relevant authorities would be occupied with their duties during the New Year’s long holiday.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has reportedly called a meeting with the Army Chief, the Secretary General of the National Security Council along with the Director of the National Intelligence Agency and the Permanent Secretary for Justice to discuss the current situation in the southern border provinces. The topic of the release of red shirt core leaders, however, was not brought up.
