The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) has revealed that during January to August of 2012, the number of investment promotion requests has increased by 24 percent.
Dr. Atchaka Sibunruang, Secretary General of the BOI, disclosed that there have been over 1,400 projects requesting the BOI’s approval for investment promotion during the first eight months of this year, with the investment capital worth altogether 691 billion baht. She said the number of requests has grown by 24 percent compared to the same months in 2011.
The industries that submitted the most investment promotion requests are the service and utility industries, accounting for a total capital of 183 billion baht. The petrochemical industry came in second with the capital valued at 169 billion baht, followed by the automobile, machinery and metal industries, with 140 billion baht, and the electronics and electrical appliance industries, with 101 billion baht.
