Japanese investors have a good understanding on Map Ta Phut impasse

BANGKOK, 7 February 2010 (NNT) – The representatives of Japanese investors have a good understanding of the Map Tha Phut situation and accept any risks associated with the projects, according to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Speaking in his weekly television program “Confidence in Thailand with Prime Minister Abhisit”, Mr Abhisit said Japanese investors showed good signs of understanding after he met with the representatives during the past week to clarify the Thai government’s role in solving the Map Ta Phut impasse.

Mr Abhisit said the cabinet had approved the prosecutor to file an appeal to the Administrative Court to unfreeze the frozen Map Ta Phut projects if they passed the Health Impact Assessment (HIA) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

Mr Abhisit continued by saying that the private sector, including Japanese investors, would abide by the rule of law in section 67 Article 2 when making project investments in Thailand.

Mr Abhisit added that the projects that would greatly benefit the people would be taken into account seriously.
