JETRO urges govt to solve Map Ta Phut problem

BANGKOK, 18 June 2010 (NNT) – The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) is not concerned by the political situation in Thailand but urges the Thai government to speedily solve the Map Ta Phut problem.

JETRO representatives in Thailand discussed the Map Ta Phut impasse with the new Industry Minister, Mr Chaiwuti Bannawat. The minister said the JETRO representatives came mainly to congratulate him on the assumption of his new post.

He said the delegation conveyed a concern by many of the Japanese-own shops and restaurants in the industrial estate who have been affected by the closure of the industrial projects in Map Ta Phut.

Mr Chaiwuti said he had explained the government’s steps to solve the problem, affirming that the situation had been under close monitoring.

He cited the JETRO representatives as saying that they were not worried by the political situation in Thailand. They expressed good understanding toward the government’s procedure under the current circumstance and had no intention to put pressure on the Thai government.
