Majority back censure debate

BANGKOK, 30 May 2010 (NNT) – A recent Suan Dusit poll has found a majority of citizens agreeing with a censure debate against the government.

According to Suan Dusit Poll, 52.02% of respondents backed the censure debate plan. Some 42.13% said they wanted Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban in his capacity as the Director of the Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) to be debated during the no-confidence session, followed by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Over 60% of those surveyed stated that the recent army crackdown on anti-government protesters should be addressed during the censure debate, with 74.56% wanted Chairman of the Puea Thai MPs Chalerm Yoobamrung to debate the issue.

Asked about concerns over the coming censure debate, 51.81% said they were worried about the inappropriate behavior of MPs followed by the use of false information. The respondents also wanted the opposition to clarify the facts it intended to use during the debate.

The survey was conducted with 1,516 respondents nationwide on their opinions towards the coming no-confidence debate.
