Map Ta Phut problems approaching their end

BANGKOK, 20 November 2009 (NNT) – The four-party panel responsible for solutions to problems of Map Ta Phut industrial estate expects to tackle the pending 76 projects within 4-5 weeks. The group will also lay down guidelines for 200 other projects in Thailand’s largest industrial estate.

Former Prime Minister Anand Panyarachun, the panel chairperson, stated after the panel’s first meeting yesterday that the group would focus on mediating all sides concerned in the Map Ta Phut problems. He said the panel would seek the most suitable ways to deal with the problems largely concerned pollution caused by the industrial estate.

The panel will travel to Map Ta Phut on 5 December before convening on the next day.

Meanwhile, Anti-Global Warming Association President Srisuwan Chanya said the association in cooperation with its supporters had set up a committee to monitor the work of the four-party panel. If any frauds were found, the committee would expose them to the public immediately, she said.
