MD Phumin resigns as deputy government spokesperson

BANGKOK, 9 June 2010 (NNT) – Puea Pandin Party MP MD Phumin Leethiraprasert has tendered his resignation as Deputy Government Spokesperson.

MD Phumin provided three reasons behind his decision to resign from the post. Firstly, he claimed that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva obviously provided protection for the ministers censured during the recent no-confidence debate.

Secondly, the outgoing deputy spokesperson indicated the Prime Minister’s lack of political ethics as clearly noticed from his failure to elaborate on whether to allow the Puea Pandin Party to continue as a coalition party. He said no talks had ever been held with key members of the party over the matter.

Thirdly, PM Abhisit was deemed as failing to create national reconciliation and was accused of ordering the use of force against anti-government protesters, which ended with massive casualties as well as a tarnished image of the entire government.

MD Phumin also denounced some Puea Pandin Party MPs, who would continue working in the Democrat-led government. He then declined to comment whether to join the opposition Puea Thai Party in the days ahead.

The removal of three ministers under the coalition Puea Pandin Party’s quota followed the votes of no-confidence cast by some Puea Pandin MPs against Transport Minister Sophon Zarum and Interior Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul of the coalition Bhumjaithai Party during the recent censure debate.

The ousted ministers were former Industry Minister Charnchai Chairungruang, former Information and Communication Technology Minister Ranongrak Suwunchwee and former Deputy Finance Minister Pruttichai Damrongrat.
