BANGKOK, 30 May 2010 (NNT) – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports will call a meeting with tourism agencies to help formulate a strategy for remedial measures to businesses in the wake of political unrest.
Mr Attachai Burakamkovit, Thailand’s Permanent Secretary of Tourism & Sports made known today that the executives of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), representatives of tourism entrepreneurs and the Ministry of Finance would be called in to attend a meeting this Monday to collaborate on creating measures to regain foreign tourism confidence. He added that a designated committee has already been set up to handle the core responsibilities of the initiative.
Approximately 1.6 billion THB will be sought from the Cabinet to be used in international public relations done in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s in order to attract both traditional tourists and travelers from new markets.
Following the fresh revocation of the curfew ordered by the government yesterday, Mr Attchai believes that foreign tourism confidence can be restored. Travelers from Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan and Korea recently canceled trips to Thailand at the height of unrest but are believed to soon return.
After the meeting, Mr Attachai said the ministry would further map out market stimulation measures. Promotional strategies such as a discount tour packages will be first wave of steps taken.
