BANGKOK, 18 April 2010 (NNT) – A number of returning Songkran holidaymakers are witnessed at the main bus terminal and the capital’s railway station on Sunday morning.
People from up-country provinces have been consistently flocking back to Bangkok after celebrating the long Songkran holiday, making Mo Chit Bus Terminal and Hua Lamphong Railway Station crowded with returning passengers on Sunday. The high turnout of the people has reportedly resulted in traffic congestion at two locations and nearby areas.
According to the latest report by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, a total of 257 fatalities and 2,863 road accidents were reported nationwide over the five-day period, starting from 12-16 April 2010. Nakhon Si Thammarat claimed 116, the highest number of road accidents, while Nakhon Ratchasima had the highest number of fatalities at 17.
No death toll has been reported in Trat, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Buriram, Phang-Nga, Mae Hong Son, Ranong, Lampoon, Samut Prakan, Samut Songkham, Sukhothai and Yala.
