NECTEC pushs Thai investigation technology to next level

BANGKOK, 8 January 2010 (NNT) -The National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NEC) has added a new dimension to criminal investigation by developing new lie detection technology, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Dr. Sarun Sumriddetchkajorn, a researcher from the Photonics Research and Development Center of NECTEC under the Ministry of Science and Technology, stated that the center has successfully developed a new lie detection apparatus that does not require physical contact, making the process more convenient for authorities. Dr. Sarun proclaimed that the advancement would take criminal investigation and national security to the next level.

A prototype of the new system is already being used by the Department of Special Investigations (DSI). Tests have given the apparatus an 84% accuracy rating thus far. The prototype uses a program dubbed Thermal Analyzer for Deceptive Detection : TAD to monitor fluctuations in body temperature and minute facial expressions, resulting in lie detection without the need for physical contact.

The patented new technology is being hailed as a milestone for Thailand’s scientific and criminal investigation fields. NECTEC has affirmed to push on with its development.
