BANGKOK, 19 March 2010 (NNT) – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has dismissed the existence of double standards in Thailand, as criticized by the anti-government United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD).
Prime Minister Abhisit affirmed that the government had only one standard in taking legal actions against all wrongdoers either from the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) or the pro-Thaksin UDD.
Regarding a delay in the legal process for the PAD’s airport and government house seizure cases, the PM explained that the police have been probing the cases urgently. He said there was a lot of relevant evidence and justice took time.
Prime Minister Abhisit continued to say that the government did not ignore the cases and the police had reported the progress of their investigations to the government every 15 days. He noted that the government had never interfered with the investigations.
The prime minister added that the UDD core leaders should stop provoking their supporters by using the idea of a struggle between classes. He however admitted that social divisions did exist in the society and it would take time to bridge them.
Prime Minister Abhisit remarked that the real democracy would occur if every side respected laws and regulations. In addition, he said a fresh election would take place in 2011.
