Optimistic growth claimed for gems and jewelry industry

BANGKOK, 8 March 2010 (NNT) – The Department of Export Promotion is optimistic that the Thai gems and jewelry industry has potential for expansion on the Italian market.

Director General of the Department of Export Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, Srirat Rastapana stated that the export trend of gems and jewelry in Thailand was likely to expand in Italy as many Italian companies had more purchasing power due to the economic recovery in the region.

The Thai gem and jewelry industry ranked among the top three in terms of Italy’s imports, said Mrs Srirat. Italian markets preferred steel, copper and titanium made in Thailand with the mix of gold, silver, crystal, glass, beads, sea shells and many others. Each year, Italian people are likely to spend 85 Euros on precious accessories.

DEP Director General claimed that accessories form Thailand were getting famous among Italian consumers. A better improvement was claimed after 4-5 years of economical fluctuation within the region. The downturn had made people regard gems and jewelry accessories as extravagant products.
