Para rubber planting project on 800,000 rai of land approved

BANGKOK, 5 June 2010 (NNT) – The Natural Rubber Policy Committee approved the 3rd phase of the para rubber planting project 2010- 2012 for 800,000 rai of land in the five regions of the country.

In accordance to the 2/2010 meeting resolution of the Natural Rubber Policy Committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thuagsuban, the 3rd phase of para rubber planting project of 800,000 rai will be implemented on the new lands. The matter will be proposed to the Cabinet thereafter.

The project of para rubber planting on 800,000 rai of land is divided into 150,000 rai in the North, 500,000 rai in the Northeast and 150,000 rai each in the Eastern, Central and Southern parts of Thailand. The Agriculture Department is tasked to control the quality of rubber breed, while the Rubber Fund Office is responsible for Carbon Credit.

The first and second phase of the project has been implemented since 1989, emphasizing on planting rubber in the Northeastern region aiming at 408,120 rai of land and 200,000 rai respectively for each project. Farmers who participated in the project must have their own land. Meanwhile, the 3rd phase will assist farmers with job security and reducing labor movement into urban areas.
