BANGKOK, 29 June 2010 (NNT) – The opposition Pheu Thai Party will ask Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to speed up the investigation of pending cases involving the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD)’s seizure of Government House and national airports.
Mr Prompong Nopparit, Spokesperson of the Pheu Thai Party, disclosed today that the party’s legal team was preparing to present a letter to Prime Minister Abhisit on 30 June, demanding him to expedite the investigation of the legal cases against PAD members. He called for strict enforcement of the law without double standards as well as a transfer of the cases as special ones under the supervision of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).
PAD supporters occupied the Government House compound as well as Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi Airports for 193 days in 2008, demanding the ouster of the Somchai Wongsawat government, which was led by the now-defunct People Power Party. The group announced the disbandment of its months-long demonstration after the Constitutional Court laid charges against the then coalition parties for electoral frauds, which eventually brought down the government.
