BANGKOK, 6 March 2010 (NNT) – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday received the ‘Man of the Year’ award from women’s right group for his significant effort to promote gender equality.
The award ceremony took place yesterday at the Government House, where the award was passed to the Prime Minister by the President of Assosiation for the Promotion of the Status of Women, Prof Pensri Phijaisanit.
Prof Pensri stated the selection was made based on the Prime Minister’s active role in supporting Thai women especially in the area of politics. As a leader of Democrat Party, Mr Abhisit had played a key role in improving human rights issue and promote equalilty between genders.
On this occasion, the book on the promotion of woman status was signed by the Prime Minister to confirm his intention to push forward government policies that helped protect the rights of women.
He also stated that the topic of “sex education” should be changed to “family education”, for propriety, as family members should take as their common task to provide proper knowledge and understanding on such human relations to the young. This could prevent teen pregnancy as well.
