PTT prompted for closure of gas field in Myanmar

BANGKOK, 13 February 2010 (NNT) – The PTT Plc is preparing for the closure of Myanmar’s Yadana gas field in March, alternating its supply base to the gas fields in the Gulf of Thailand.

PTT Vice President for the gas business unit, Permsak Shevawattananon, said the Yadana gas field would be closed for two weeks at the end of March for the construction of natural gas lines and equipment on the Yadana platform. During the halt, gas from the western sources will be reduced by one billion cubic feet per day.

To minimize the impacts on the users, PTT asks all gas fields in the Gulf of Thailand to run the production at full capacity to compensate the supply loss from the western source and support the need of the industrial and transport sectors. Patrol will be provided for power plants in Rayong in a bid to reduce the electricity generation sector’s gas demand during the time.

In cooperation with the Energy Ministry and the Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand, PTT believes it will be able to manage the situation without affecting relevant sectors.
