NAKHON NAYOK, 11 October 2009 (NNT) – The Internal Trade Department expects registration of rice farmers for the crop price guarantee scheme to be completed by 31 October 2009.
Internal Trade Department Director-General and Acting Permanent Secretary for Commerce Yanyong Puangrach on Sunday traveled to Ongkharak district in the northeastern province of Nakhon Nayok to inspect the registration process of farmers for the crop price guarantee scheme of the government.
Mr Yanyong said the registration in Ongkharak was almost completed. He expressed his confidence that the overall registration would be completed by 31 October 2009. He said, however, some farmers did not register in the scheme for lack of confidence in the registering process.
According to the scheme, farmers do not need to actually sell their rice but can earn from the difference between quoted price and guaranteed price upon their assertion.
The director-general added that he had instructed the Internal Trade Department officials to prepare grain moisture meters at various spots for fairness in rice trading and to prevent possible frauds as well.
