BANGKOK, 5 August 2009 (NNT) – Transport Minister, Sopon Zarum, said Thai Airways International (THAI) was likely to lose 2 billion baht in profit in the second quarter of 2009 due to the economic downturn and swine flu.
After discussing with the Permanent Secretary for Transport, Surachai Tansitpong, yesterday, Mr. Sopon stated that the national carrier was likely to face another loss of profit this year due to the global economic crisis, the type-A (H1N1) outbreak, and increasing oil prices. The company reported that these factors had reduced the airline’s passenger load.
The minister said he had rarely received reports on THAI’s performance from the company’s board and executives after he delivered them policy.
