BANGKOK, 3 March 2010 (NNT) – Wireless telecommunications research and development company, Qualcomm, reveals research results showing active 3G technology growth worldwide
Manager of Qualcomm, Thailand, Ms Kaneungjit Suriyathumrongkul, stated that mobile technology has reached a new age. Rapid changes in telecommunications technology and services resulted in a strong evolution of 3G.
Global surveys revealed that there are currently more than 4,000 3G supporting products on the global market with 615 3G service providers in 166 countries worldwide. Among these countries are over 945 3G subscribers which are expected to grow beyond 2.7 billion by the year 2014.
Not only was user growth detected but mobile data traffic as well. ABI research estimates that the monthly traffic rate in 2014 will exceed the total rate in 2008. Major service providers around the globe are currently experiencing a 26-36% growth in data traffic already.
Ms Kaneungjit said that the next generation of phones will enable users to have the power of a laptop in one hand, with additional features such as biosensors and lower power consumption.
A new type of 3G technology will also become the new mobile communication standard called the LTE (Long Term Evolution) Advanced. Dubbed 4G, this new technology is expected to surpass all of its predecessors. The system will be introduced at the end of 2011. Ms Kaneungjit said however that this technology would not be introduced to Thailand yet.
