Thai-Cambodia dispute not affect bilateral trades

BANGKOK, 12 November 2009 (NNT) – The Economic and Business Forecasting Center under the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce Director believed that Thailand and Cambodia conflict would not affect both countries’ economy.

The Economic and Business Forecasting Center under the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce Director, Professor Doctor Thanawat Polvichai stated that overall Thailand and Cambodia businesspeople would not be hit by the conflict between the two countries as both governments had declared clearly earlier.

Professor Doctor Thanawat added that the situation at the Thailand and Cambodia borders were still normal. The trade discredits and price jumping were short term situations. They would be solved if the two countries could keep the economic relationship.

However, Professor Doctor Thanawat reiterated that the conflict would not affect the Thailand economic expansion as the total export value from Thailand to Cambodia was around 47 thousands million Baht compared to 6 million million baht of the whole country’s exportation. But trading with Cambodia was considered of provincial importance namely, Sa Kaeo, and Si Sa Ket.
