BANGKOK, 11 January 2010 (NNT) – Thai exports to the US in 2010 are expected to stand at 21 billion USD, an 18 billion USD increase compared to last year, according to the Department of Export Promotion (DEP) under the Ministry of Commerce.
DEP Director-General, Srirat Rastapana, elaborated that the department would focus on exporting goods to US prisons which are a giant market with about 3.1 million prisoners this year.
Ms Srirat stated that the Mild States Services Plc of the US would be the mediator to order products such as food, apparel, shoes, electronic appliances and other consumer goods from Thailand. She expected that the company would order products worth about 30-50 million USD due to the high quality of Thai goods. Thai producers of the mentioned goods are being urged to produce more.
The director-general added that her department was ready to penetrate markets in China, Japan, India as well as the ASEAN region more. She therefore expressed her confidence that the export expansion in 2010 would be 10-15%, the growth target set by Commerce Minister Pornthiva Nakasai.
