BANGKOK, 8 December 2009 (NNT) – Thai exporters are urged to penetrate the cosmetic and the medicine markets in Iran due to high purchasing power and fewer competitors.
Deputy Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, Mr. Vichak Visetnoi, stated that food, cosmetics and medicine product categories had a high market potential in Iran and Thai exporters should try to penetrate the market there. However, Thai exporters must be verified to pass the assessment. They would be able to get verification from the related agencies.
After passing the assessment, the importers’ representatives are required to request the import permit via the Ministry of Public Health.
The goods being shipped to the ports and the airports will be put on hold before distribution as an assessment and analysis of goods is required by the Ministry of Public Health to ensure safety for consumers. The period of the assessment and comparative analysis will take between 9 and 12 months with expenses amounting to 9,000 USD per product category, per factory.
Mr Vichak viewed that it would be beneficial if Thai exporters passed the process of assessment and could distribute their products in Iran where the market potential is high with few competitors.
