BANGKOK, 9 February 2010 (NNT) — Trade along the Mae Sot – Myawaddy border in Tak province has increased by 15-16 billion THB year-on-year with a tendency to reach an all-time high of 23 billion THB.
Mae Sot Border Official Pongthep Buasap said the border trade had risen by 28-30% compared to the same period last year, and the tax collection from the businesses there had also exceeded the target with 200 million THB collected. He said the figures were very satisfactory despite political problems and a slow global economic recovery.
Meanwhile, President of Tak Chamber of Commerce Banpot Kokiatcharoen said that even though the Myanmar Kyat had dropped in value to 100 MMK/2.90 THB, from 3.20-3.30 THB, it had not affected Myanmar’s orders for Thai products. He said this was because there was still high demands for products from Thailand and both countries had strong relationships, especially the local people.
