Thaksin´s birthday not affect on the Government

BANGKOK, 27 July 2009 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban assured today that fugitive ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s birthday event over the weekend had no affect on the Government.

Deputy Prime Minister for security affairs Suthep Thaugsuban commented today on the ousted PM’s heavily publicized birthday event over the weekend, saying that it was not beyond expectations as he still had many supporters. On the ex-PM’s plans to launch a new television station, Mr Suthep said he had no objections as long as the channel did not in any way seek to harm the Kingdom.

He also responded to proposals of reconciliation from Mr Thaksin’s camp, saying that the Government was prepared to reconcile with Mr Thaksin but considerations must be made to his actions over the past 5 to 6 months.

As for statements by General Chaiyasit Shinawatra that Mr Thaksin will be able to return to Thailand next year, Mr Suthep stated that the comments were merely wishful thinking among the ex-PM’s relatives.
