Thammasat Hospital relocates patients in critical

A number of patients have been transferred from Thammasat Hospital to others in safer locations on fears that the hospital will become inundated while Thammasat University’s evacuation center is now fully bracing for the deluge.

Assoc Prof Dr Kampol Ruchiwit, Vice Rector for Administration, Thammasat University, disclosed that a decision had been made by Thammasat Hospital to evacuate over 60 patients on ventilators and transfer them to other hospitals for more efficient treatment. The move was prompted by concerns that the approaching flood would affect the patients and their relatives.

Moreover, the atmosphere at the hospital has reportedly become somber as there are now fewer patients while over half of the hospital staff are on a leave of absence due to the flood problem.

Speaking of the evacuation center at Gymnasium 1 of the university’s Rangsit campus, the Vice Rector confirmed that the center had reached its full capacity of 3,800 persons. As for the water situation, he said the water level in Prem Prachakorn Canal located behind the university had recently lowered to 15 centimeters below the embankment while the water mass from the nearby Nava Nakorn Industrial Estate had not arrived yet.

The university is still believed to be safe from floods, considering a sandbag wall of one meter high around the temporary shelter as well as a 5.8-meter-high dyke surrounding the entire campus.
