The apprehended bomb suspect is believed to be unrelated to international terrorist groups, while more culprits are expected to be involved in the bombing incident in Bangkok, the Police Chief says.
The Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmoung has made a statement prior to the investigator’s meeting at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters, after the capture of a suspect over the bombing incident at Ratchaprasong Intersection in Bangkok.
He said that the suspect has been charged for possession of high amounts of explosive, which is connected to the incident in Bangkok. The suspect’s nationality has not een verified as he holds many different passports.
The arrest has led the investigation team to narrow down many speculations, while detailed information on this case still cannot be disclosed as it may affect the investigation’s process. The Police Chief stated that more people are believed to be involved in the incident, and some of them are still in hiding within Thailand.
He has further stressed that the bombing incident is not related to the international terrorist groups, but is instead an act of reprisal by some groups of people.
The Police Chief has also revealed that the suspect is now in custody from military officials, and the arrest has been made success from the cooperation between the police, the military, and from information reported by the public.
