BANGKOK, 18 January 2011 (NNT) – The Government will take its utmost attempt to help Thai Patriots Network (TPN) coordinator Veera Somkwamkid, the only Thai border crosser remaining in Prey Sar prison, according Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
Prime Minister Abhisit said he had been reported of the bail release and already talked with Sub-Lieutenant Samdin Lertbussaya, one of the four granted bail by the Cambodian Appeal Court on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister continued that he did not know the exact reason behind the denial to Mr Veera’s bail request, but that the court was expected to draw a verdict on the case within this week. He said the government had already mapped out its assistance guideline to help the TPN coordinator.
Regarding the gathering of the TPN group at Government House, Prime Minister Abhisit said the police would be able to take care of the situation without the necessity to cite the Security Act. As for the chance for the TPN group to join the red-shirt people in ousting his administration, Mr Abhisit uttered that the government would only quit through the parliamentary system.
Seven Thais were earlier arrested and detained in Prey Sar prison due to illegal entry and trespassing military zone. All of them have already been released on bail, except for Mr Veera who was additionally charged with espionage similar to his secretary Ratree Pipatanapaiboon.
Other five border crossers were Sub-Lt Samdin Lertbussaya, Mr Tainae Mungmajon, Democrat MP Panich Vikitsreth and his aide Kitchaponthorn Chusanasevin, and Ms Narumol Chatvaratana. Mr Panich and Ms Narumol were released on bail before others.
