The Internal Security Act (ISA) deactivated today

BANGKOK, 1 December 2009 (NNT) – The Cabinet today approved the revocation of Internal Security Act (ISA) in Bangkok, starting 1 December.

Prime Minister Mr Abhisit Vejjajiva spoke today after the Cabinet meeting that the Cabinet has canceled the ISA measures. He also said the there would be no cabinet reshuffle until the government completed a year in power.

The deactivation takes place from now on, yet there will be a serious monitoring due to the upcoming auspicious events, especially arranged in celebrations of the 82nd Birthday of His Majesty the King. Mr Abhisit added that the incident evaluation procedure would take place again after the New Year.

The Internal Security Act (ISA) was activated to control unexpected political turmoil from 28 November to 14 December. The deactivation has been made since the government was concerned that the measures could damage the national image and overall atmosphere in Bangkok, especially with the upcoming auspicious event to celebrate His Majesty the King’s 82 Birthday Anniversary.
