UDD dispersed at Khao Soi Dao forestland

CHANTHABURI, 24 January 2010 (NNT) – The anti-government United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) has reportedly dispersed after completing its latest demonstration at Soi Dao Highland golf course in the western province of Chanthaburi.

Mr Jatuporn Prompan, a UDD core figure, stated that the group is planning to stage their next rallies at the Army Headquarter for inquiring with Deputy Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-Ocha about the possibility of a coup d’etat in the near future. The UDD will also head to the Defence Ministry in order to inquire about the progress on the military conscription evasion case against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, who was accused of using false documents to avoid serving in the military.

The group staged a peaceful rally at Khao Soi Dao golf course from 22-24 January. The gathering was aimed at protesting against the double standard practiced by the ruling Democrat-led government regarding Privy Council President and Statesman Prem Tinsulanonda’s alleged encroachment on Khao Soi Dao forestland.

The UDD on Friday agreed to scrap its planned rally to protest against the ruling government at Suvarnabhumi airport and Siriraj Hospital to report to His Majesty the King the alleged land encroachment case against privy councillor Surayud Chulanont.

General Prem Tinsulanonda has been accused of encroaching Khao Soi Dao forestland in Chanthaburi Province while former army chief and privy councillor General Surayud is accused of trespassing the forest reserve at Khao Yai Thiang mountain in the northeastern province Nakhon Ratchasima.
