US automakers show interest to invest more in Thailand

BANGKOK, Sept 23 (TNA) – Three giant US automakers expressed interest to increase their investment in Thailand during their meeting with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva in New York, according Thai Trade Representatives president Kiat Sitthiamorn.

Accompanying the prime minister on his US trip, Mr Kiat told the media via video conference from the US to Government House that the executives of the Big Three auto makers — Ford Motor, General Motors Corporation and Chrysler Group had met the premier during “Thai Prime Minister Meets American Investors” at the St. Regis Hotel in New York on Tuesday.

The executives told Mr Abhisit that they planned to expand investment in Thailand by more than 10 billion baht  ($285 million) each in the future, he said.

Meanwhile, Coca Cola Company also said it wanted to increase its investment in the kingdom by another 1 billion baht ($28.5 million).

Moreover, Cargill, a major Midwest corporation, expressed interested in setting up agriculture product distribution centre with Thailand to build food security and safety in the region.

Cargill’s business activities include purchasing, processing, and distributing grain and other agricultural commodities, and the manufacture and sale of livestock feed and ingredients for processed foods. (TNA)
