BANGKOK, 21 June 2011 (NNT)-The Commerce Ministry will be hosting World Rice Standard Summit 2011 on Wednesday. With 50 trading nations from across the world participating, Thailand stands to meet the new export target of 10 million tons this year.
According to Commerce Minister Ms. Pornthiva Nakasai, participants will also have a chance to see rice manufacturing in Nakhon Sawan province where the Summit is held. She said this event would further raise the export volume from 9,050 billion tons of Thai rice to 10,000 billion tons this year.
Meanwhile, President of Thai Rice Exporter Ms. Kobsook Iamsuree said the price of rice could spike to as much as 10,000 THB per ton; however, she said if rice producers were hoping to take advantage of the government price guarantee scheme, the price of Thai rice could soar and no importing nations would ever want Thai rice anymore.
